Linwood

Linwood is a small, family-oriented city in Atlantic County, New Jersey, located in the southern part of the state near the Jersey Shore. It sits approximately 10 miles west of Atlantic City and about 50 miles south of Philadelphia. The city covers roughly 3.8 square miles and is part of the Greater Atlantic City metropolitan area. Linwood is situated in the Pinelands region of New Jersey, giving it a mix of suburban neighborhoods and natural surroundings.

Linwood is known for its quiet, residential character and strong sense of community. With a population of approximately 7,000 residents and a high homeownership rate of 90%, Linwood attracts families looking for a stable, suburban environment with easy access to the shore and major employment centers. The city has a local business district along New Road (County Route 561).

Linwood was originally known as Leedsville. The community became known as Linwood around 1880, and was incorporated as a borough on February 20, 1889, separating from Egg Harbor Township. Linwood was later reincorporated as a city on April 27, 1931. Throughout the 20th century, Linwood grew from a small agricultural community into a suburban residential city.

Linwood is part of the Mainland Regional High School District, which also serves Northfield and Somers Point. Mainland Regional High School, located in Linwood, serves students in grades 9-12. The Linwood Public Schools serve students in grades K-8, with Seaview Elementary School and Belhaven Middle School providing elementary and middle school education.

Linwood offers a high quality of life with its proximity to Atlantic City's entertainment and employment, as well as the beaches of Margate, Ventnor, and Ocean City — all within a 10-15 minute drive. Residents enjoy a short average commute of 24 minutes, and the city's location provides easy access to the Garden State Parkway and the Atlantic City Expressway for regional travel.
